Oedipus Rex is a tragedy performed in 429 BC and is a good illustration of the conflict between state control as well as the conflict between the ruler and the state. The story centers o the King Oedipus of Thebes, who is prophesized to kill his father and marry his mother (Dodds, 1966). On the other hand, Hamlet is another tragedy by Shakespeare, where the ghost of the King of Denmark tells the prince, Hamlet to kill the new king, an uncle to Hamlet, to avenge for his murder. In the subsequent happenings, Hamlet pretends he is mad, anticipates life and death, as he aims to avenge his father’s death. The sitting king also seeks to kill Hamlet after learning of his intentions. The play ends when the Hamlet, the King, the Queen, and all people opposing Hamlet are killed (Jones, 1949).
