Traditional schools’ role in supporting student health and wellness entailed offering the experiences and instruction to prepare learners for their role as healthy and productive citizens. These schools taught students the cognitive and academic skills needed to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing and successfully navigate the corporate world. Whereas traditional schools promote students’ health and wellness within learning environments, community schools connect learners, families, and communities to educate children and support neighborhoods (Govmez et al., 2012).
Community schools offer an opportunity for community health enhance by seeking to impact the populaces, not solely the learners. Community schools improve the health and wellness of students and entire populations by influencing health as well as education of neighborhood populations via three pathways: building trust, linking people to services and networks, and establishing healthy norms.
