Applied and Natural Sciences entail the study of the world, which assist individuals to comprehend themselves better, know their position in nature, and the role that nature plays in shaping their lives. Indeed, it includes studying different fields, such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, technology, and biology (SNHU, 2020). Applied and Natural Sciences enhances work-life balance social commentary that gives a deeper insight into the impact of technology on human activities. However, the primary question that researchers ask is whether technology has increased the volume of work or made life more flexible. One of the challenges posed to work-life balance is the work-related usage of the Internet. For example, some people no longer work in their standard work environment due to the emergence of online occupations. Despite technology improving work efficiency and effectiveness, it has widened the gap among school, home, and work since work-related engagements and emails follow individuals everywhere (Kohll, 2018). For instance, some people are required to respond to work-related emails while at home, which interrupts the time they are supposed to spend with their families. As such, technology fosters a gray area, which entails determining whether to handle work-related tasks beyond working time. Based on the previous research, it has been determined that the more the time spent in receiving and responding to work emails besides working hours, the higher the work-life issues that the involved employees experience. In addition, such employees have a high risk of getting involved in family issues, such as those related to elderly family members, children, and spouse (Jacukowicz, Merecz-Kot, Andysz, & Najder, 2018, p. 42). Since the web and other current technologies enhance greater flexibility in the workplace, will they enable people to have a balance between work and life, or will they create new obstacles?
The best way that science can help individuals to overcome the challenges in work-life balance is by applying the evolution theory in analyzing the natural environment. Specifically, the advancement of technology opens a chapter in occupational health and organizational psychology. For this reason, the way people define working environment, safety, and health protection must be changed (Jacukowicz, Merecz-Kot, Andysz, & Najder, 2018). Scientists can also solve the work-related problems by coming up with questions that involve the modern trend in technology so that they can foresee, analyze, and explain the change for an in-depth understanding of the balance between work and life.
