Health equity refers to the realization of the best healthcare services for all American residents. Research suggests that most veterans experience a gap, which bars them from accessing the best mental healthcare. Besides, various aspects need consideration to realize health equity for all American citizens. Some of these facets include historical injustices, contemporary injustices, the elimination of health, and health care inequities. Studies suggest that valuing all residents and focusing on constant collective efforts can help address various inequalities. Besides, health disparities are some of the problems veterans endure in their quest to achieve healthcare services. Lack of funds is the primary obstacle limiting the attainment of health equity in America. Health disparities adversely affect individuals who analytically endure large social hurdles. Below is a list of the economic obstacles related to health or clean environment:
* Gender
* Religion
* Geographic location
* Age
* Mental health
* Sexual orientation
* Military era
* Racial/ethnic group
* Cognitive/sensory/physical disability
* Socio-economic status
* Historical features related to discrimination or exclusion
Researchers conducted a study and found that the state of Georgia had approximately 12% of underinsured citizens (Krisberg, 2015). The studies conducted aimed to determine the role of socioeconomics in the healthcare sector and how it hinders the attainment of health equity among veterans.
Physicians and health experts aver that health disparities widen the search for realizing health equity, thus making it necessary to review and make recommendations. Changes in treatment modalities and differential access to healthcare services can affect the attainment of health equity for veterans. The barrier is likely to emanate from the aspect that not all persons can afford some treatment in prestigious healthcare facilities. Lack of proper funding can limit one’s ability to access the best medical services as prescribed by a physician.
