A mall, a cave, a dark alley downtown, some lonely path in the forest…the list is endless. There is always that place that is a scary one for each individual. They give us goosebumps, nervous attacks, bad memories, or simply some momentary trauma. These placed are usually labelled so, as a result of certain events or activities that might have happened there, or are still happening at the said place. We all tend to have particular places, be it within the urban setup, or back in the rural areas, that we fear venturing to, especially when alone. So many movies have been made ,capturing the horror of going to certain places alone. While the movies might just be for entertainment, there are real places that clearly send shivers down my spine, and I therefore try to avoid them. One such place is this backstreet alley down the road, where all kinds of illegal activities go on.
I have been brought up to be brave and daring, to remain steadfast even in adversity. There are however, some instances that really make me reconsider such a resolve. Coming face to face with a drug addict, especially the violent kind, can be quite a terrifying thing. This is commonplace in this particular alley, where young men and women clearly profess to the ‘gospel’ of drugs. The problem is that the place lies midway on the way to school. As a result, it becomes almost a must, for most students to go through, unless one has the time and energy to go around it. Well, as for me,...
