Media literacy allows critical thinkers and creatives to use images, text, and sound for a wide variety of messages. It is the knowledgeable use of literacy skills to communicate through media and technology. Communication technologies transform our society and affect our knowledge of ourselves, our communities, and our different cultures (Lee, 2018). In North America, literacy media involves a number of communication skills, including the capacity to communicate, access, analyze and evaluate information in a wide range of ways, including printing and non-printing.
Media literacy is an interdisciplinary approach and a required, unavoidable and realistic reaction to the complex and constantly changing technological world and communication that surrounds us. For people to become effective students, responsible citizens, productive workers, or knowledgeable and conscientious consumers, competence with increasingly complex mediums of information and entertainment is needed to address us on many senses, impacting our way of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
Today's information and amusement technologies convey to us through a strong combination of text, pictures, and sounds.
