In every class, students are expected to learn things that will help them in life once they are done with school. A school is often a place that helps to synthesize individuals who can fit perfectly into the society. Students are, therefore, molded into people who can adhere to the rules and obligations of the society and also impacted with skills that will help them improve themselves and the community as a whole. The Critical Inquiry class is indeed one of the classes that significantly shapes students into better individuals. While it might never be obvious to some students, this class influences a person and makes them better thinkers and also helps them to ask the right questions whenever presented with a scenario. I learned a lot in this class, and it is by far one of my favorite classes. However, three things often seem to stand out for me whenever I consider the things I gained from this class. These include the gift of critical analysis, every person matters, and finally, my innate ability to be aggressive. The above things were, of course, influenced by the topics and readings we had during this class, and I can categorically say that my time was well spent.
First of all, the gift of critical analysis might seem like less of what I am making it be but it is indeed an important virtue. Every person has the innate ability to assess a situation and then coming up with the conclusions. However, the Critical Inquiry class furnishes and smoothens one’s initial ability. Initially, I was among the group of people who always sought for more than a situation presented. I always wanted to know more and therefore, people around me, especially my friends made fun of this aspect. Critical analysis employs careful listenership and logical reasoning, and I learned how to combine both to arrive at an appropriate conclusion. At first, the CI class seemed like any other class as time went on, I realized that I not only wanted to develop my amateur skills of critical analysis but that I was getting prepared for my college life.
In college, every student is expected to have this skill or at least be able to draw their independent conclusions from a scenario. With this in mind, my interest in the CI class grew, and I can confidently say that it has greatly impacted and taught me the art of critical analysis. Like everyone else, I like to draw conclusions, and I learned that I often do so without assessing things or the scenario. However, with the skills and education I gathered, I made the ultimate decision to always consider factors in their totality before drawing any conclusions.
The second thing I learned about myself is that I am part of a whole. This lesson was inspired by the story of Primo Levi in the Survival in Auschwitz. In this story, readers are presented with the epitome of human evil as well as epitome human endurance. The media often propagate issues of race as vices, but some of our leaders often seem to toy with the issue.
