On February 2, 1882, James was born, the eldest child to John Stanislaus Joyce and Marry Murray Joyce; a big family of ten children (Bibliography, 2018). As a child James was exceedingly intelligent and had a passion for writing and literature; because of his passion to literature, he learned Norwegian to enable him read Henrik Absan's plays in the original language that they were authored. Since he was intelligent his family forced him to go to school, he was educated by the Jesuits and later joined the Irish Schools of Clongowes wood college, Belvedere College and finally joined University College of Dublin where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major on modern languages. After graduation, he relocated to Paris to study medicine but returned to Ireland because of his Murray’s sickness. James married Nora Bernacle during his stay in Ireland after his mother’s death in 1903.
