Henry seems to have made Winterbourne the main character of the story. He uses this character to introduce the rest of the characters which, in turn, helps in propelling the narration. For example, the initial introduction of Daisy in the story is made through the eyes of Winterbourne. He realizes a beautiful woman and decides to talk to her. As well, most of the scenes are based on Winterbourne's contribution to the story. The scene whereby Winterbourne's aunt describes him as innocent creates an illusion about the kind of person that daisy is.
