The reading is about Sprout, who is concerned about a duckling that she refers to as her baby. Sprout stays at a strategic point to ensure that she can watch over the duckling, who has returned to the yard so that he can live with other ducks. However, he is unwanted by the other ducks, yet he thought they would accept him because they look alike. Sprout knows this and keeps an eye on him while devising a way to get him out. She is mostly worried about the duckling being turned into a meal by the weasel, who stays around the yard waiting for an opportunity. Eventually, during an incident where the weasel attacks a cockerel on the yard, Sprout can get into the yard and during the chaos, advises the duckling to fly away, which he does.
