Issues of racial problems continue to dominate most of the discussions in global forums. While nearly every country has dedicated efforts to end this setback, there is an overall admission that reaching a sustainable solution requires joint endeavors from all stakeholders. Seaton and Iida (2019) assert that racial segregation promotes the sense of retrogression in the society and hiders development because growth cannot be achieved by just a selected few. In principle, discrimination that based on skin color has a direct impact on an individual's access to basic and essential services. In the United States (US), for example, the inclination towards race has adversely impacted the day to day lives of black Americans.
Black Americans face systematic obstacles that hinder them from getting good jobs. Despite America experiencing a record 110 months of undisturbed job growth, with unemployment hitting its lowest point in 50 years, African Americans still face more obstacles to get jobs than white Americans. They often experience structured rates of unemployment while the majority of those in employment face significant job instability, poor benefits and less pay (Quillian & Hexel, 2016). These differences are a reflection of outright discrimination against black Americans and they constitute occupational segregation which arises from the segmentation in the labor market. The exclusion has a resultant effect on their ability to afford the standard of living, rendering them poorer than their white counterparts.
Additionally, a racial problem in America has led to a gap in education between black and white Americans. In the US, local property taxes significantly anchor public education funding. However, the said tax revenues may differ between various school districts and neighborhoods. The variance becomes the object of education disparity because its availability of financial resources within schools determines the existence of programs and facilities for use by students (Dixon, 2019).
