Effectiveness Interpersonal Communication
Effective interpersonal communication skills are vital for both professional and personal lives. Imagine a person who cannot express himself or herself to others. That individual cannot interact or socialize with others without conflicts. In that case, it would be challenging for such a person to handle his or her duties appropriately. In particular, self-awareness entails understanding one’s individuality and personality. In other words, it means knowing a person’s beliefs, emotions, values, aspirations, weaknesses, strengths, passions, motivations, and thoughts. Self-disclosure involves communicating with others and revealing one’s information to them. For example, one might tell his or her friends about his or her favorite meal or football club. As such, one can focus on building strengths and improving weaknesses by seeking help from others. Second, a person should always listen carefully to give relevant feedback. Third, one should develop intuitive skills in decision-making. Fourth, one should know things that trigger his or her emotions (Tjan, 2015). Fifth, an individual should set boundaries and be open-minded. I have realized that I interact with other people well without conflicts since I listen keenly before commenting or answering their questions. Moreover, I understand my strengths and weaknesses. For example, if I do not comprehend the language that another person is speaking, I always inform them rather than assuming that I know what they are saying. When participating in a heated conversation or debate, I do not make arguments targeting a particular person. Instead, I stick to the topic and avoid talking too much when things appear to take a different or an unanticipated direction.
