One of the most common cognitive distortions is Jumping to Conclusions. This is when a person tends to make irrational assumptions about circumstances or situations and people around him or her. A coach can assist someone with this distortion by helping them make some lifestyle changes (Cutler, 2007). For instance, if a client has had been in a distressed environment, the chance is he will consider everybody a source of depression; in a situation, a coach can make the person understand that not all people are bad and that the people around him or her are his friends and relatives who cannot bring any tension or depression to him. This means the client does not need to jump to conclusions without knowing the actual facts. Another example is that the coach can help a person know that nothing will happen to him or her in the future (predictive thinking).

Emotional intelligence is of great importance for coaching executives and can be used in any organizational setting because it is all about giving confidence, motivation, and inspiration (Evans & Garthwaite, 2009). A coach can improve the level of emotional intelligence by taking the client into confidence that he is there to assist him and help him in the best possible ways. The coach must possess emotional expertise in order to build a strong relationship with the person he is going to assist.
