How Do You Respond to Literature?
I relate the most to Hemmingway’s short story and Angelou’s Poem. In both readings, the writers excel at employing tone and imagery to make the reader aware of the subject matter and the story’s setting. In “Hills like white elephants,” Hemingway describes in detail the setting of his story. I found myself mentally positioned in the train station like the man and the girl by reading it. In her poem, Angelou also helps the reader to create images in their brain of several phenomena. Although Angelou’s description is more generalized, one can get an idea of what she is talking about by accumulating all the oversimplifications. It is through all the stated oversimplifications that African Americans have suffered and persevered.
