Response The article by Jeffrey Selingo main claim is that despite the increased number of graduates,  there has not been a significant change in unemployment. Additionally, many individuals with degrees are stuck in jobs that do not require such academic achievements. The author notes “… tens of thousands of recent graduates have found themselves on the unemployment line…”(Selingo, 2015). The author adds that college graduates today lack the qualifications that are necessary for their productivity in the workplace. Selingo (2015) reviews that the ideology behind college education has shifted from the idyllic vision to the notion that it is all about getting a job. This is exemplified by surveys at UCLA that conclude first-year students join college with the objective of getting a better job. The focus on getting a better occupation is attributed to the large tuition bills faced by students and their families. Additionally, with an increase in the number of students seeking higher education, Selingo (2015) notes that colleges have rolled out programs that did not exist in the past.
