Our actions influence other people. Similarly, our ideologies that lead to our actions can also be influenced by other people. This is why it is essential to understand the forces or factors that reinforce or inhibit our conduct.
Primarily, the forces that reinforce and inhibit our deeds are based on social influence or perception. It is not an imitation of those around us. Instead, it acts as a magnet that appeals to our intuitions, thereby allowing it to invade our senses. Ultimately, it affects our ideations leading to changes in an individual’s actions. Sometimes, social influence tells us subconsciously to be attracted or repelled by another trait, situation, or event. When we become attracted to a particular concept, it compels us to place ourselves in the same situation. Conversely, when we are repelled by one concept, we are subconsciously forced to look away and do or think differently.
This happened to me when I choose the clothes that I buy, especially when joining different cliques. Of course, I know that I should be dressed appropriately for the event. However, I still find it challenging to select the set of clothes and shoes that I will wear for an occasion. And this is probably because subconsciously, I would like to be the talk of the crowd or that others, who do not care about me, notice me for the first time. Here, social influence is a driver for change to be the best and not just mediocre in a particular scenario.
