THRONE OF BLOOD
Throne of blood is a film that is set in medieval Japan during “the age of the nation at war." This was a period when Japan was undergoing a civil war. Additionally, it was a period when the violations of the Samurai Code were an apprehension, a period when traitors and Samurai were common figures. Kings were deposed in the same circumstances as the lords in the Throne of Blood. Throne of blood is often viewed as the interpretation of Shakespeare’s play. One major that is found in this film is the idea of absolute power that corrupts mankind. Other themes in the film include tragedy, betrayal, loyalty, and superstition. Throne Of Blood is a film that portrays some of the evils that happen in society today. I believe that power has made people ungrateful and acts contrary to justice. The film is an illustration of blood and violence, ungrateful feelings, and devoid of gratitude.
Blood and violence is an outstanding theme in this film. This film explores the bloody ambition of man and thirst for power. It shows that human beings have a heritage of violence. Washizu kills his Lord who had himself murdered his Lord. There is no moral successor to the Cobweb Castle because all the Lords must acquire this throne with some degree of bloodshed. Washizu is informed that one day he will become the Lord and the son of Miki would rule as a Great Lord. Washizu had no interest in serving as a great Lord but his wife tries to convince him to reconsider his calling. As time goes, pressure increases and Washizu ends up taking action. Washizu kills Tsuzuki and General Miki to get power. Further, we are informed that Tsuzuki had killed his Lord so that he could acquire the Throne.
The temptation of power is a theme that is evident throughout the film. In the film, Miki and Washizu are riding through the Spider Web Forest when they came across a spirit who prophecies to Washizu that one day he will become Kurasawa (The Lord of Forest Castle). The prophecy of power by the spirit illustrates the confusion and disorder that will follow later. This shows how power can pervert a leader. Later in...
