African art and religion portrays the intellectual and cultural vitality in the African continent. African art has greatly been used in expressing and communicating ideas on human, spiritual and natural world. Despite this important role of art, Christianity and Islamic religions have played a key role in restructuring the way art is viewed and applied in the African set up in regard to religion. Art objects are generally created to be enjoyed and to be used by communities as a way linking them to their world. Many people describe African art as a powerful tool that is effective in evoking and abstracting powers which are central to human life (Hackett, 1994). This is because African artists don’t focus on creating things that resemble individual humans.
