In this project, I chose to create a personal “Story Map” about Australia, a country where I spent my vacation in last summer. I was attracted with the people of this country and fell in love with almost everything about it. As I was researching the areas I visited, I noticed that some places were not on the early maps and there were various maps that proposed how the country should be divided. To me this was unusual since some places were originally were large states. Due to the various proposals on how the country should look like and the numerous allegations that Australia needs to change its position on the global map, I took the opportunity the course offers to create my own map about Australia. I could have read the history of Australia on a number of books and platforms such as Wikipedia, but I found it to be fun digging for maps from the library and look at them from different perspective to discover states that did and did not exist over time and discover how smaller states are linked to the larger states. However, the question was, How was I supposed to take the information and create one story? I had to explore the options and utilize every resource that is available. The course introduces various tools that I think I will be utilizing to work on my project. These tools allow one to make maps and Story Maps and compose various elements such as texts, photos and maps.
