Amenmhat I is regarded as a wise leader who protected the Egyptian territories from any external invasion. It is believed that he was assassinated before leaving the leadership mantle to his successor Senusret I. The evidence to support the reports that he was assassinated are found in the text, The Story of Sinuhe. Immediately after his assassination, this first historical novel was written to explain the circumstances under which Amenhat I was assassinated. The text explains the ghost of Amenmhat I talking to his son. It is also believed that the story was intended to be used by his son Sunusret I as the inaugural speech. The argument provided is valid given that the novel was previously thought to have been written by Amenmhat I himself after a failed assassination CITATION Sha03 \l 1033 (Shaw, 2003). However, after a further analysis, it was discovered that it was a fictional story written to explain the assassination of the king.
