Mini study.

It is important to remember your mini study should use quantitative values since this is a statistics course so you can complete the required calculations. Cigarette Smoking Among College Students
My claim is that males are more likely than females to smoke. My target population is college students. Smoking is a public health concern, and it is one of the main roots of preventable diseases across the world. In addition, college students experience changes as they transition to college life. Associating with new smoking friends and the greater independence they have increases their probability of smoking. Therefore, the population of college students will be appropriate for my claim.
The first question in the survey will be: What is your gender? An individual’s gender can influence his behavior and the way he thinks hence affecting the survey results. Knowing the gender of the college students in the survey will help establish the gender differences in smoking. The second question will be: How old are you? This question will allow the study to understand the background characteristics of the students. The variable age will help the researcher determine the age group with the highest smoking rates. The last question will be: How many cigarettes do you smoke on average per day? The number of cigarettes smoked per day will help know the different types of smokers among college students (light, moderate, or heavy smokers). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cigarette smoking is the most widely used form of tobacco worldwide (World Health Organization, 2020). Therefore, this question will be useful in determining the rates of cigarette smoking among college students.
The independent variable in this study will be gender, which is nominal. The dependent variable will be the number of cigarettes smoked, which is continuous. Age, a continuous variable, will be used to describe the demographic characteristics of the respondents.
The survey will be created using Google Forms. The study will employ an online survey to minimize physical contact due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A link to the survey will be posted on students’ Facebook groups. The students will be requested to fill in the survey by clicking the link.
