Identify the various cultures, their roles, their values, and the interconnected issues they face. Examine the social context of multiculturalism. The film "The other side of immigration" is based on interviews that were conducted in several Mexican towns. Most of the residents in these towns have left to work in the United States. The film investigates the drive behind so many Mexicans going to the United States to work as well as what the families they leave behind go through to sustain their livelihood. As the film depicts, most of the immigrant groups in America have tried to preserve their unique cultural ways. Nevertheless, some the migrating Mexicans have not receded the use of their mother tongue as well as their other cultural practices (Lerner, 2010).
A large number of the people in the United States trace their origin as Mexican immigrants or Mexican-Americans. Due to the interaction between the Mexican migrants and the natives, the multicultural inheritance of Mexican American became rich and complex. The multicultural country is greatly influenced by Spain, Mexico and other indigenous cultures (Mendola & Alio, 2014). The multicultural relation between the Mexican immigrants and the American natives has come with notable benefits. The Mexican immigrants have notably increased the supply of workers who have not attained the high school education. They have held down the labor cost for those investors and employers who engage unskilled workers in their production. The reduced labor cost is transferred to the final consumers of the goods and services, by a reduction in the prices charged. To the American Society, the cheap labor cost for these unskilled workers lowers prices in the United States on the produced goods and services that utilize unskilled labor as a crucial input. On the part of the Mexican immigrants, this becomes a source of income that they remit to their families back in Mexico (Bansak, Simpson & Zavodny, n.d.).
