Introduction
The roaring 20s was associated with growing wealth in western countries including increased consumerism as well as political and social changes. In Canada, there was growth in the manufacturing industry and more people moved into the cities. The privileged upper class people and middle class benefited in the roaring 20s as their wealth grew as compared to the lower class Canadians, Aboriginal peoples, minorities and immigrant, and the suffrage movement allowed women to exercise more rights.
Roaring 20s and Canadian Women
Under the law, persons excluded women, which meant that they enjoyed fewer rights and freedoms, but the fight for equal rights accelerated in the twenties with women voting and earning better wages. Women enjoyed more rights, but there was still inequality indicating that they did not fully benefit in the roaring twenties.
Roaring 20s and Upper and middle class Canadians
Middle class families earned higher incomes especially from factory jobs. Even the middle class could afford luxuries, which were most common among the upper classes. The Roaring twenties were good for the middle and upper class people who enjoyed leisure, comfort and higher income levels.
