Biodiversity relates to the presence of various types of species on earth that exist in diverse ecosystems (Gilbert, 2013). The species vary depending on the biome, ecosystem the number of species and genetic variation. When there are temperature fluctuations, the organisms that are most found in the ocean are affected by the temperature fluctuations. This includes the species that only tolerate the narrow temperature fluctuations. Both thermo regulation and energy balance are necessary for the survival of vertebrates and invertebrates, which may be affected by the changes in temperatures. Vertebrates have different strategies to acclimatize and adverse changes in temperatures then affect biodiversity.
The migrating vertebrates rely on the changing temperatures to adjust their movements, integrating the environmental data with the internal state data (Winkler et al., 2014). The behavior patterns of migrating vertebrates explain the response of animals to temperature cues as they adapt to the environment to avoid extinction. Timing is the key component for migrating vertebrates to move during seasonal environments. Another aspect showing the link between temperature cues and vertebrates is that the length of temperature may affect reproductive functioning (Gilbert, 2013).
Invertebrates rely on temperatures for growth and development, and abnormal temperature fluctuation alters their natural response. The balance between the invertebrates and the food supply is most affected by rising temperatures where the invertebrates develop faster, but their food supply may bloom later, the effect of this is that some invertebrates fail to survive. At other times, with the rising temperatures the predators then feed more on the prey and this may change the ecosystem.
