Mutations, sexual reproduction, migration, and population size are natural processes that all affect genetic diversity as genetic diversity changes over time in the natural range. Genetic diversity refers to the variability of genetic sequences in a population. A diverse gene pool in a species occurs after introduction of new alleles and change in the prevalence of specific alleles in the population. This paper focuses on how mutations, sexual reproduction, migration, and population size affect genetic diversity.
Mutation refers to the change is gene sequence, and the change are gradual rather than sudden resulting to changed form of DNA (USDA, 2006).
