You can summarize the major points presented by the speaker. This summary must go beyond the speaker’s abstract. The last paragraph of each summary should be your personal response to what you heard. If a talk is “over your head” technically, please be aware that most speakers’ major points are not in the technical details, but rather in the value/importance (present or future) of the subject matter of the talk. The length of the summary in the standard format should be at least 400 words, but no longer than two single-spaced pages.

Facts about EVs In his article, “Three Facts about EVs and Multi-Vehicle Households,” Davis (2021) discusses the behavior of households with alternative vehicles apart from EVs. The main role of the use of EVs lies in their ability to reduce carbon emissions by reducing reliance on vehicles using fossil fuels. However, families in possession of EVs tend to have alternative vehicles, thus limiting the overall impact of the EVs. Therefore, this negates the efforts put in place to increase the usage of alternative energy sources to power vehicles, thus undermining the environmental benefits of EVs.             Davis (2021) highlights the 2017 National Highway Transportation Survey data that summarizes the ownership of vehicles in the United States. From the data, households with EVs are more likely to have alternative vehicles for their transport use, with only 10% of the households with EVs being single-vehicle households. As a result, the possibility of vehicle substitution within the household increases substantially. Apart from that, approximately 60% of households in the United States with EVs further have non-electric vehicle options such as SUVs or minivans. This differentiation provides for variation in attributes that can fit the household’s needs with regard to aspects such as seating capacity or cargo area (Davis, 2021). Therefore, households with several vehicles may purchase an EV as a fuel-efficient option to substitute any other fuel guzzlers they own. Ultimately, such behavior leads to lower fuel usage due to the alternative EVs that only use electricity.           &nb...
