The Misogyny within "Death of a Salesman"
‘‘Death of a Salesman’’ is an American dramatic play written by Arthur Miller. The literary work is about the American dream, an early concept obtained from American countrymen and literature. Willy constantly interrupts her, ignores her, cuts her off, and treats her with disrespect. Despite the disloyalty and emotional abuse, Linda still cherishes and respects her husband. In this case, Miller portrayed Linda as a submissive woman. This portrayal gives the audience an impression that women must remain submissive at all times regardless of the situation.
Miller also depicts Linda as a powerless and highly dependent woman as she relies solely on her husband. Regarding child upbringing, Linda has no control in shaping who their sons, Biff and Happy, become. Willy is the one who always controls their sons. Willy treated Linda as the typical housewife....
