The topic that resonates with me is corrections reform policy advocacy because a retributive criminal justice system would reduce the jail population and save the federal government significant thresholds of financial expenditure. I believe alternatives to imprisonment for non-violent criminals are essential to lessen over-crowding, constructively and correctly sentence offenders, reduce financial expenses, and safeguard offenders’ families from disruption. The controversy is that law enforcement agencies would argue that incarceration is a means to restore order in society once the crime is committed. This way, law enforcement agencies, and victims would likely oppose the current advocacy efforts.
The idea for this policy is to partner with faith-based organizations such as the Quaker Alternative to violence program (QVP), which offer an alternative to sentencing as one of the donors. I would work with faith-based organizations such as QVP to advocate for alternative sentencing for non-violent offenders to lessen overcrowding in prison. The activities of QVP resonate with my advocacy plans for my community in St. Louis, Missouri, which are my target audience.
The audience and supporters of this policy include convicts, ex-convicts, and their families. The policy would advocate for alternative sentencing for persons who have depicted attributes like behavioral traits, medical illnesses, and family responsibilities that validate a mitigated sentence and crucial exploration of practical alternatives to long imprisonment. The submissions are concentrated on guaranteeing that the person can demonstrate good conduct within the community while at the same time assisting in maintaining the family system in order. Within the traditional criminal justice system, the federal court offered the last resort for convicts’ right to constitutional terms of confinement. However, the convicts’ rights to court access are restricted because prison circumstances are becoming harsher and more punitive.
