Approach to the Task
As the newly hired assistant warden for a state prison, I would approach the task of reviewing correctional officers' morale using need-based theories. This will help identify the root causes of absenteeism and work on it effectively. For instance, applying Maslow's hierarchy of needs makes it easy to understand whether the correctional officers' emotional, basic, tangible needs for survival and human desires are fulfilled to generate their motivation. Also, I would use job satisfaction and organization commitment antecedents to review correctional officers' morale. These antecedents play a great role in motivating workers to determine their behaviors towards the organization (Ćulibrk et al., 2018). Also, the two tend to be connected as people who are committed to their jobs or organizations are less likely to leave or fail to report to work. On the other hand, organizational commitment is brought by job satisfaction which gives the employee a positive attitude toward the organization creating a strong attachment that leads them to make sacrifices towards its success (Ćulibrk et al., 2018).
