Our movements and position reveal sensitive information concerning our preferences, lifestyles, health, work, and acquaintances. Unknowingly switching on the device location allows adversaries to establish the user’s position and movements. Considering that the device was connected to the cellular network, information about the user’s movements and position within the cellular system was obtained by several entities with significant potential for privacy issues. The wireless medium broadcast nature posed the risk of radio signals’ opportunistic exploitation to localize the transmitting device, thus undermining the capacity to protect the user’s location privacy. Mobile network operators (MNOs) always have some level of information about the user’s position in the cell as well as the cell within which the user is located (Tomasin et al., 2021). In this way, the MNOs could also sell or disclose the user location data to other parties, thus compromising their privacy.
