The Future of Meat Conventional meat production relies on the large-scale farming and slaughter of animals to provide a food source for the human population. Consequently, scientists are looking for more efficient ways of developing cultivated meat through cellular agriculture. Reiss et al. (2021) discuss the cell sources and possible measures that are currently being used in the production of meat, while highlighting their possible advantages and disadvantages. The authors hypothesize that the scaling up of cultivated meat production requires developing livestock cell sources to make the procedure commercially viable. From the study, it was evident that some of the technology such as scaffolding technology was not adequate to aid in the production of cultivated meat.
