The Future of Meat
For the attached article, on meat grown in labs SUMMARIZE AND CRITIQUE it.
Summaries should not consist of more than 200 words. The first few sentences should provide a
brief outline of the topics discussed in the study from the previous lecture, whilst the rest should
focus on answering the specific questions below.
Part 1: Summary
Summarize the research article, briefly. Describe the background on why the study was done, what
were the important questions being asked, and what were the hypotheses or predictions? Briefly
describe the methods and the results and how they related to the questions being asked.
Part 2: Critique
Did they successfully answer their research questions? What new questions have emerged? What
directions would you like to see the research move in next? Why is this study important in the
grand scheme of the field (big picture)? What would you do differently from their study? What
were some issues with their study (limitations)
The Future of Meat Conventional meat production relies on the large-scale farming and slaughter of animals to provide a food source for the human population. Consequently, scientists are looking for more efficient ways of developing cultivated meat through cellular agriculture. Reiss et al. (2021) discuss the cell sources and possible measures that are currently being used in the production of meat, while highlighting their possible advantages and disadvantages. The authors hypothesize that the scaling up of cultivated meat production requires developing livestock cell sources to make the procedure commercially viable. From the study, it was evident that some of the technology such as scaffolding technology was not adequate to aid in the production of cultivated meat. Further, bioreactor systems were identified to require optimization to satisfy the industry’s needs (Reiss et al., 2021). The study’s methodology relied on a literature review that compared information on cell types and the process of obtaining t...
