Globalization through Bananas
Globalization is an essential aspect that every historian opts to understand. It refers to the integration and interaction among governments, people, and cultures. In the 19th and 20th century, globalization was heavily experienced due to the growth and change in most commodities such as bananas and palm oil. The increase in global interactions enabled people to effectively change their cultures and generate new ones an aspect which was not only important in human growth but social growth as well. According to the graphic story, "Abina and the important men," it is essential to note that the growth of the identified commodities played an essential role in making individuals adjust to different banana cultures, among others. Between the 19th and 20th centuries, it is essential to understand that globalization was at its peak as individuals' interactions diversified based on fruit production and industrialization. Many labor regimes also came into place with diversified ideas among different cultures. From the story, it is also arguable that the most common growth which was also observed is the emergence of banana and palm oil as major strategic resources that were used by the British to offer control. In globalization, one of the most important aspects is supremacy control. Supremacy control can be retrieved, socially, economically, or even politically. Therefore, from the story by Abina, one can adequately argue that the main source of globalization was economic growth. It is also evident that during the period it was difficult for the British to adequately control the locals due to their regional ad economic supremacy (Getz & Clarke, 2016). In other words, since the locals had adequate production background it was extremely difficult for the colonies to take advantage of them. Instead, they used this opportunity to ensure that their reproduction was internationalized. From Abina and important men, the ruling of the Asante state was a problem. This is ...
