Newspaper Analysis: Robert Shiller’s What’s Behind a Rise in Ethnic Nationalism? Maybe the Economy
The story of Exit West provides us with an idea about the impacts of globalization on individuals' daily lives. Remarkably, such a theme was illustrated around a couple who leaped fate to have better chances in life. Although a story, such narrative reflects the ideas and the realities of minorities and individuals who ‘take a leap of faith’ to better their lives against the odds and risks present during migration. In this article, I would like to analyze two newspaper articles that are related to one of the themes in Hamid’s novel entitled Exit West, namely the idea of globalization and nationalism. To conduct this analysis and portray the salient points in the said articles, the author would initially summarize Hamid’s Exit West. This would then be followed by an analysis of the concept of Globalization as discussed in the newspaper articles. All in all, I plan to pursue in this paper the argument of globalization having certain risks and dangers that primarily affect those who are not in power using the analysis of news articles and the novel.
Brief Summary
Exit West's story started in a country where any moment of any day can be your end date, and uncertainty is not uncommon. A depiction of battling every breathing day to survive while maintaining a sense of normalcy. It is portrayed by characters of a young working man and a rebellious but religion-bound kind of woman. The overall material was a breath of fresh air from a literary point of view. While everyone is discussing ill-fated love relationships or life learned lessons. This narrative refused to do so as it tackled many points of debate on race and religion. The plots' run does not precisely convey a tight narrative run throughout, but its depth makes it fun to crack. At the same time, it turns every plot into an upside-down, confusing, and labyrinth way of storytelling. The idea remains on point as it slowly unfolds the essay’s realism, romanticism, and political twists. Exit West (Hamid) was presented unconventionally yet refreshing, subtly aimed to eradicate wrong notions of emigrants of a particular ethnicity. The author’s argument can be identified as revolving around the characters’ expectations and prejudices, being Muslims, emigrating in a European setting.
Globalization and Newspaper Article Analysis

A highlight that continuous efforts to ease mobility across the globe are ongoing.
