In many professional jobs, employees are often given a broadly defined task (e.g., write a report on this topic). This week, you will have the chance to practice creating a report and presenting it in a professional meeting. These are transferable skills that will help you in your current or future jobs.
Scenario:
You are a project manager working for Global Challenges 2050, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that addresses a wide range of aid projects around the world. Global Challenges 2050 recently accepted a donation of $20 million USD to fund two projects the following year. Each project will be two years in length and needs to find one concrete solution to a global problem. The executive director, your boss, has tasked you and the other project managers to come up with a viable project. At the next Global Challenges 2050 board meeting, you will be presenting your idea to the executive director, the board of Global Challenges 2050, and your colleagues.
As a valued team member of Global Challenges 2050, the board has asked that all program mangers vote for one of the projects presented at the meeting. Much like a traditional meeting, you will have a chance to ask questions about the projects submitted for consideration in the forum.
You can choose one of your discussion posts or written assignments. You are also permitted to explore a topic of your own choosing as long as it relates to the course content.
If you are unable to record a video or audio presentation, please submit a written transcript with at least 500 words.
Your Global Challenges 2050 Project Proposal will
Analyze the global challenge in the context of globalization.
Describe the human cost and who is impacted by the issue.
Determine the main causes of the issue (e.g., inequality, poverty, scarce resources, war, etc.).
Assess the importance of diplomacy and propose one solution to the problem.
Include a one-page preliminary budget ($10 million).
Hypothesize the price of inaction.

Tackling Environmental Degradation
The world is undergoing rapid changes and development in various spheres of life. Globalization, an aspect propelled by technology, has tranformed the world in many ways. While globalization has positively impacted the world, there are many challenges that arise as the world becomes more globalized. Challenges resulting from globalization include environmental degradation and ethical issues in corporate organizations. As a non-governmental organization, Global Challenge 2050 proposes an environmental conservation plan in the context of globalization during the contemporary times.
Environmental Conservation
Environmental conservation is a global challenge in the context of globalization. Population trend across the world is on an upward trajectory with dynamics such as migration increasing. As the world population rises, competition for resources within our environment is becoming stiff. Huge population groups scramble for available resources such as water within their surrounding, as demand for natural resources is overwhelming. Multinational corporations are opening up organizations in different parts of the world, which also calls for a scramble of resources such as land (Belaid & Youssef, 2017). Therefore, increased competition for natural resources calls for the conservation of the environment in the context of globalization.
Human Cost and People Affected by Environmental Degradation
As a means of conserving the environment, Global Challenge 2050 should be aware of the human costs involved and the people impacted by environmental degradation. The human cost is described as the loss or damage inflicted on people or society. The damage, however, can either be measured in the instance of material loss or challenging to measure for damages such as psychological (Verhoef, 2012). Environmental degradation is a global issue that usually affects communities where the demand for resources such as trees and water is alarming.
