* What are the background, process and the influences of American imperialism?
At the end of the 19th century, the interests of America in foreign affairs increased. There was a worry that the country was being left behind as other countries were scrambling for territory, raw materials, and markets. With the public infuriated by the Spanish brutality in Cuba and a mysterious sinking of a US battleship in Havana Harbor, the US entered into war with the Spain that culminated in the signing of the Treaty of Paris (Norton, et al., 2015). The victory allowed the US to control Cuba, Guam, Philippines, and Puerto Rico. American imperialism influenced economic growth in the US and around the world. It also marked the collapse of the Spanish empire.
