Introduction
A passion is always at the center of every career. One must have the love and strong drive to do what entails that particular job. This is regardless of some of the challenges that one may encounter. Nursing is no different. If anything, it is one of the fields of study and practice where one must put in their all. Nursing is an integral part of any health care system. The role played by the nursing profession is bedrock of the healthcare system in any country. It is for this reason that it is necessary to have clear philosophy for the school of nursing and the larger nursing profession. In this paper a person philosophy of school of nursing has been discussed extensively. The discussion is based on my personal view on the same issue.
General View
The bedrock of nursing is care-giving to patients. Nurses’ primary duty is to ensure that the needs of patients while at the hospital are met (Edwards, 2011). In order to effectively realize this, nursing promotes compassion of patients while ensuring that all efforts are directed towards ensuring that all activities are centered on patients. Nursing not only focuses on the physical well-being of a patient but rather seeks to take a holistic approach to ensuring effective care for human beings.
Compassion in the nursing field is the main drive upon which the work of nurses is anchored. It is about empathy and taking up the pain and discomfort of patients as though it were their own. As part of the nursing philosophy, there is need to realize and appreciate that just like any other part of society, there is diversity among patients. Further nursing appreciates autonomy of patients with the realization that each patient have specific potential and that they may have both divergent and universal needs.
Pillars of Nursing Philosophy
There are a number of identifiably strong pillars of the philosophy in nursing. One is care-giving which essentially the foundation of nursing is. It is the primary role of nurses in the field to ensure that patients receive the best care while at the same time maintaining professionalism.
