COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus disease 2019) is an infectious disease that is caused by SARS CoV-2 (also called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). The virus was first identified in China in December 2019 and has now spread all over the world (Hospital Preparedness Checklist, 2020). More than 6 million cases have been reported so far and nearly 355,000 people have died in all parts of the world.
It’s safe to say that the virus that causes COVID-19 can infect people of all ages, including doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and other individuals who are there to treat patients and serve them in one way or the other. The biggest challenge for medical experts is how to ensure their protection and safety while dealing with COVID-19 patients.
A significant number of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals have also lost their lives in different parts of the world, and it is believed that they were exposed to the virus and could not deal with it.
