Professional boundaries refer to relationships that create a proper connection and understanding between physicians and patients. Lunkka et al. (2021) argue that they emphasize the significance of subtle interactions among involved individuals, which promote professional collaborations (Lunkka et al., 2021). Professional boundaries in the healthcare settings foster dynamic categorizations, proper transformation within an institution, sustain stability, and allow affected people to relate well to each other, hence minimizing possible conflicts.
Professional boundaries are more explicit than personal boundaries. In particular, personal boundaries make individuals in a new environment build trust with each other easily since they might be tied by similar behaviors, challenges, or personalities (Lim, North, & Shaw, 2017). For example, patients suffering from the same chronic disease are likely to interact and form long-lasting relationships since they encounter similar problems. Likewise, cancer patients might create community groups to share their emotions and feelings, forming proper personal boundaries. Unlike professional boundaries, personal boundaries do not have numerous limitations, and people can have emotional connections.
