The ANA Code of Ethics conceptualizes a patient as a person usually in the hospital who receives medical care, their families, and communities in which they reside. I agree with the use of the word "patient" to "client." The ANA chose to retain the term "patient," which is commonly used in health care to represent those who receive nursing care, including the clients who consume health care, individuals, or groups (Butts & Rich, 2019).
