Understanding Nursing Theory
Introduction
A theory refers to a set of organized prepositions, concepts, and knowledge that essentially deliver the understanding of a phenomenon. Therefore, nursing theories are systematic outlines defining the scope of nursing practice. The theories investigate and describe what nurses are charged with or their responsibilities and the current goals and results of treatment, and the defined tasks. In addition, these concepts are crucial to nursing philosophy. They have a fundamental understanding of care standards, helping practitioners to explain what they do and why they do it for patients (Roy, 2018). It is essential because it allows nurses to articulate evidence that supports their methodologies.
The conceptual underpinnings, meaning, abstractness, or generalization form the basis of how nursing theories are categorized. This paper explores the grand, middle range, and micro-range nursing theories. For each theory, one theorist and their theory are analyzed. Finally, the paper provides information about which theory I am most likely to use in practice and which I would like to incorporate more into my practice in the future.

Grand Nursing Theories
These nursing theories are focused on general, abstract, and complex principles that can be applied to a wide range of concepts and propositions that nurses can experience in the course of their work. Models and conceptual structures for describing the practice in a range of contexts and care settings and ways of analyzing phenomena based on these perspectives are common themes. They give suggestions for elements such as people and wellness. These hypotheses are usually based on the experiences of the nurse theorist. They cannot be used for empirical research, even though they are considered valuable intuitions in practice.

Theory of Self-Care by Orem Dorothea.
Dorothea introduced the theory of self-care. The main point in the theory is on helping patients in managing and maintaining or improving human functioning through self-care. The nursing practice is expected to provide a self-care which can be equated or as effective as self-care provided at a home level (Alligood, 2017). The theory emphasizes a person's capacity to care for themselves. Self-care theory is interconnected to self-care deficit theory and nursing facility theory (Smith, 2019). Partially compensatory, supportive-educative, and wholly compensatory nursing care theories are the three types of nursing care theories.
Mid-Range Nursing Theories
Rather than dealing with broad topics, middle-range theories concentrate on a specific phenomenon or idea. In comparison to grand theories, they are more restricted in nature and deal with concrete, current, and relatively operative concepts and suggestions at a lower abstraction level. In addition, their ideas and propositions are more focused on nursing practice (Smith, 2019). Nursing researchers suggested using this level of theory due to the complexity of evaluating grand theories. As a result, they are used in scientific research.
