Clinic in Sub Saharan Africa
Sub Saharan Africa has one of the most retrograded health care systems in the world. The region also bears a considerable burden due to communicable and non-communicable diseases that mostly occur to poor dietary, healthcare infrastructure, and lack of sensitization on the citizen’s part. Similarly, poverty and illness correlate in different ways since people in the region struggle due to unaffordable medicine, long distances to hospitals, and a lack of a balanced diet. Various non-governmental health organizations intervene in the health situation in Sub Saharan Africa through clinics, sensitization campaigns, and funding. Some of the services and programs that could get introduced in the region include launching public sensitization campaigns to inform the public on how to protect themselves from malaria, HIV, cancer since prevention is cheaper than cure, use of mobile clinics to reach remote locations.
Malaria is one of the most prevalent infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. The geographical nature of the region, including bushes and swamps, facilitate breeding of mosquitos, which are the primary transmission mode. Malaria parasites are transmitted into human bodies by female Anopheles insects, which are also known as malaria vectors (Maze, et al., 2018, p. 8). Due to the complex nature and severe effects of malaria, the clinic will conduct sensitization drives to help the people in Sub Saharan Africa to protect themselves from the disease. Although the condition is complex and easily spreadable, it can get prevented through adequate information, including the need to sleep under treated mosquito nets. Malaria sensitization is an essential program since the disease mostly affects expectant women and children.
Sensitization is another critical program that the clinic could provide. HIV is another disease that contributes to the burden of disease in Sub Saharan Africa and one that kills people in the community due to lack of information (Lancaster, et al., 2016, p. 12). Community-based and institution-based programs should get used to inform the public of the dangerous disease and reinforce protective behaviors. Although the condition is not curable, there are various ways through which people can avoid it, including practicing protected sex and the importance of sticking to one partner. Commercial sex is one of the most reviled acts, although some studies indicate that the practice is prevalent due to illiteracy and poverty. There are numerous cases of under-aged girls practicing commercial sex, an indicator of the severity of the issue, and the importance of quick intervention. The clinic can set up a program where they recruit one leader from each community and train them on the importance of safe sex and the availability of ARVS to suppress the virus for people who have tested positive. After training, the leaders can spread the information to the community and help reduce the burden of HIV/AIDS.
The clinic can also take advantage of mass media to educate the population on preventative measures. Since most remote areas lack electricity and internet success, people mostly rely on FM rad...
