Introduction
In any health institution, a nurse that practices medical, as well as the managerial role, usually faces a lot of challenges, unlike those that are strictly focused on the practice. This is because they have to supervise hospital employees, colleagues and patients to ensure a sound working environment. Even though nurses are not usually trained professionally as leaders, they will have some of the incomparable influence on the type of services care required by the patient and during the healing process CITATION EON03 \l 1033 (O’Neil & Morjikian, 2003). This shows that any nurse in leadership role has other responsibilities that focus on creating a particular culture professional enough to retain and recruit other nurses to successfully perform their duties. The following reflective essay is based on my personal experience in the nursing profession and on the leadership roles I took during my nursing hands on field experience CITATION ASo17 \l 1033 (Solman, 2017). The reflection will be based on three main domains that allowed me to evaluate my abilities and perform my duties as a nurse while at the same time leading a team in the nursing profession. In this manner, I will evaluate my managerial abilities with regard to the following key areas.
1 Personal and Professional Accountability
Some of the main areas I used in evaluating my abilities to be accountable personally and professionally were in the practice of ethics in the hospital, personal growth and development. This also included the way I related with other colleagues in the hospital. With regard to the above area, I was able to realize that I still had a lot to learn in regard to leadership in nursing CITATION EON03 \l 1033 (O’Neil & Morjikian, 2003). This is because some of my ethical values and norms as required in the nursing profession have so far been good enough to enable me realize strategic leadership in various aspects of nursing and management. In this regard, being a registered member with the nursing professional practices reveals that I am qualified enough to be a nurse, however, this did not really determine my abilities as a leader.
2 Career Planning
As a professional nurse, planning one's career is very important. This includes assessing your current role and planning the way one wants the future to position him or her.
