The study is cross-sectional, aiming to assess the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children of school-going age (six to twelve years) in Bahir Dar City, Northwest Ethiopia. Six hundred and thirty-four children were included in the study, where a systematic random sampling method was used. The results found that 11.9 percent of the sample were either overweight or obese. The primary factors linked to overweight and obesity included schooling in a private school, high wealth status, fast food intake, inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, poor fruit, and vegetable intake, and using transport means to and from the school. The study showed an alarming prevalence of overweight and obesity among school-going children in Bahir Dar city.
