As children develop, they need to advance in different ways. Different childhood developmental stages are essential in tracking a child’s progress as they need to develop physical, cognitive, language, and social skills. Children go through different stages of development from the time they are born to become adults. In most cases, the skills develop predictably, and these are called developmental milestones (Mayes & Zickgraf, 2019). Nonetheless, every child has their own pace of development. Therefore, it can be challenging to determine the difference between atypical and typical children, as each child has their strengths and weaknesses.
