In the article brings to light some of the most intriguing aspect with regard to evidence based practices. Suzanne C. Beyea and Mary Jo Slattery, elaborate on the concepts of evidence based practices that are common in the nursing field bus most importantly in the medical field (Suzanne & Mary, 2006). Evidence based practices refers to medical practices that are backed by research. This is a practice that has been around for some time starting out in the 1980s. back in the 80s, the practice was referred to as evidence based medicine. Ideally, when the approach was introduced, it focused on making sure that the medical practices were determined by scientific evidence. This is relative to the fact that medical science at the time had gained much footing in the science realm and most of the research was focused on streamlining the basic practices in various areas of the social lives (Suzanne & Mary, 2006). Evidence based practices as they are known today refer to implementation and the use of the best practices as proven by scientific evidence in the area of concern (Melnyk, Fineout-Overholt, Gallagher-Ford, & Stillwell, 2011). The paper, however goes further to explain how the nurses can use the approach to streamline their medical practices and enhance the quality of care offered to the patient. The ability to implement the practices means that the nurses are able to read, critique and even synthesize the research findings that are presented over time and valuable interpretation with reference to quality care (Stevens, 2013).
In summary the article first introduces the concept of evidence based medicine as the first approaches which was introduced in the 1980s. this is relative to the fact that medical practices were now being integrated into the research findings as new discoveries came about. The elemental basis for research is to make sure that there is continuity in the information available on any given topic. As such, when applied in medical practices, this enhances the quality of care, relative to the fact that there are always improvements on the medical and more so the nursing practices (Melnyk, Fineout-Overholt, Gallagher-Ford, & Stillwell, 2011). To better assist the readers to understand the concept of EBP, Suzanne and Mary explain the meaning of EBP and further compare it to the concept of nursing research. At the same time the paper also brings to the attention of the readers the improvements that that EBP can bring with reference to quality and how it is relevant to nursing.
The paper points to the fact that, the implementation of the practices will lead positive changes in processes, systems, satisfaction, cost outcomes and even function (Suzanne & Mary, 2006). These are crucial foundation...
