According to the World Health Organization, there are four key components of a functioning health care system. Finance, insurance, and payment deal with the monetary aspects of the health care system. These components provide financing for the system by providing resources for financing of the hospital equipment and medication as well as providing remuneration for staff. The delivery component deals with the delivery of health care services to the populace. These components are regulated by health care bills in the United States. The passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) (ACA) 2010, represented a significant overhaul of the health care system in the US CITATION 11110 \l 1033 (111th United States Congress, 2010). The act requires the transformation of healthcare practices in the areas of finance, insurance, and clinical delivery. The ACA was tasked with making health care accessible for patients by expanding insurance coverage in the US by public and private agencies. It was also mandated with increasing the quality of health care patients received. It also ought to reduce the overall cost of healthcare for private individuals and government by expanding the insurance bracket.
The Act contains a number of key provisions; these include guaranteed issue where insurers are required to provide cover for anyone who applies. This is regardless of pre-existing medical conditions. Insurers would also be required to demand the same premiums from individuals in a similar geographical location without regard to gender.
