Summary of the Study
The clinical and research problem that led to this study was the increased relationship between the need for rehabilitation and the use of technology for the communication purposes, especially in the local areas, where there is the need to have people rehabilitated for various reasons (Laver et al., 2013). One thing which was not known for the clinical problem is that, a majority of the officers at the change of having effective communication while transferring the individual in the local communities, who need to be rehabilitated. Another major thing that was not known of the study was the effectiveness of the telerehabilitation program which was selected to be used in the study. If the effectiveness of the telerehabilitation program would be ascertained in the initial stages, then there would be a positive improvement in the healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. The authors established significance in the study by focusing on the explanation of the problems facing the people, and the health sector as a while, in relation to the issue of rehabilitation, and also providing a solution to the same problem.
This study, “Telerehabilitation services for stroke”, by Kate E Laver, Daniel Schoene, Maria Crotty, Stacey George, Natasha A Lannin, and Catherine Sherrington (2013), is important to the reader, since it provides information on the means and ways in which individuals who suffer from the stroke problem can have effective assistance from the healthcare sector. This study looks at the suffering which individuals undergo when they get sick in their homes and the many challenges that they have to undergo before they get to the hospitals. The purposes of this study include: the determination of whether the use of telerehabilitation program would lead to a more improved performance and enhanced activities of daily living amongst stroke survivors, and also the determination of whether the use of the telerehabilitation program would lead to a more independent and improved domestic life and self-care among many people. The other objectives included the determination of whether the program would enhance the improvement on the mobility factors, the health-related quality of life, the improved upper limb functionality, increase in the cognitive function as well as the enhancement of better and functional communication for the rehabilitation process. Finally, the objectives aimed at issuing reports in the presence of the severe health cases, the enhancement of cost-effectiveness, feasible as well as user-friendly telerehabilitation test results.
