Participants` Rights
Researchers in some of the cases have to work with populations that are considered vulnerable. It is important that researchers understand that they hold the responsibility of protecting the rights, safety and even the welfare of the participants whether vulnerable or not. The vulnerable are persons that may have limited capacity and/or informed decisions, with regard to their involvement in the research process (Shivayogi, 2013). This captures the element of conducting research, such as it is, with children, pregnant women, cognitively impaired persons, people with disabilities, mentally challenged, students and even where the risks involved are above minimal.
The first step involves making sure that the participants have given their consent to being involved in the research process (Boone, 2017). This points to having the participants fully understand what it is that they are getting involved in for them to make an informed choice. This is important and the information offered to the participants should be correct and none of it should be misleading.
There is also a need for the participants to be given the chance to sign the consent, so they show that they have agreed to the terms.
