Stages of Life Interview
People react differently to infections depending on their respective stages of life. Healthcare professionals require adequate knowledge of lifespan development to facilitate the provision of effective patient education and care. Mr. Johnson is a 54-year-old married man with three young children. He is in the middle adult stage of life development (Mr. Johnson, personal communication, 2022). Mr. Johnson was hospitalized after developing throat cancer. Middle adults are at the stage of life where they get multiple life experiences due to various transitions in their life. Also, they tend to shift their focus and many think of getting old and reflecting on their past experiences. In addition to emotional factors, physical changes are experienced since the body ages are visible. Healthcare professionals need to understand a patient’s life span development in order to offer effective teaching to patients.
1. Do you feel that your stage of life had any effect on your interaction with health care professionals?
Mr. Johnson was presented to the ER after being diagnosed with the infection since he was experiencing symptoms. He reports that he was treated with respect, dignity, and professionalism during the entire procedure. He did not feel that his age was a factor in the treatment procedure since he noticed that patients from other age groups were treated the same. According to Mr. Johnson, healthcare professionals have increased their concern and they were more caring while attending to his needs.
