Sigmund Freud’s psychosexual theory is a psychoanalytic theory where he divided the stages of the child’s development to explain their emotional development. Freud called these stages psychosexual stages since he assigns an important role to the sexual instincts for their development. In this way, he affirms that the development of the personality begins at the oral stage to the fifth and last stage, the genital stage. The three theories focus on the sequence of life events in development. However, Freud focuses on sex, while looks into Erikson focuses on personality development, and Piaget focuses more on mental development. Erikson considered the impact of social experience in development, but Freud ignored this.
Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory highlights that children develop in a predetermined order. Erikson was also interested in the way children socialize and how this affects their sense of personal identity.
